INFORMATION & ADVICE

XC75 -DNH7 steel is ideal for making carbon blade knives

Made in France by Les Aciéries de Bonpertuis, the DNH7 is the name of our XC 75 steel when it is hot rolled. The composition is identical to the cold-rolled version, but this manufacturing technique allows for larger thicknesses. XC 75 carbon steel is one of the most used shades in cutlery. Composed of 0.75% carbon, it allows to obtain a good hardness after income while keeping a good tenacity. Its excellent price quality ratio and ease of implementation allow beginners to start manufacturing a blade without too much worry. With a controlled heat treatment, XC75 steel provides an efficient edge and a very fine grain. This very versatile shade is suitable for many types of blades: folding knives, hunting knives, EDC... It can also be used for manufacturing and forging hand tools.

Quite simple to solder, XC75 steel is also widely used in the Damascus forge. Assembled with 15N20 - which has the advantage of having the same carbon level - it offers an interesting contrast in your different patterns.
