EUROTECHNI IS PROUD TO PRESENT YOU ITS BRAND NEW WEBSITE!
Whether for the production of Damascus steel kits or sandwich steels, the borax is the essential ally for the success of a perfect welding of several metals between them.
The action of the borax is to remove the calamine and impurities on the heated steels while lowering the melting temperature of the metals (which is referred to as melting), thus allowing perfect contact and welding with the forge, without risk of breaking the welds.
Borax is not limited to industrial applications at the workshop.
Its many qualities can be very useful at home by making a natural mineral a product to do.
Borax powder is one of these products of old that, pure or mixed, can be used for a multitude of domestic applications:
- Washing agent.
- Glasses and floors (cleaning and shine).
- Eliminate bad odours (paper, textiles, garbage).
- Maintenance of pipes (disinfecting and detarting).
- Eliminate stains and moulds (walls and floors, textiles, etc.).
- Hunting and eliminating insects.
As can be seen, natural borax powder can replace many common home cleaning or maintenance products.
Of course, as with any active product, it is advisable to wear adequate protective clothing for its use and to avoid any projection or ingestion.
Borax, also known as mineralogy "sodiumborate", is a natural mineral extracted from a rock (evaporite) found abundantly at the site of old dry alkaline lakes or their shores when water evaporated, leaving alkaline sodium salts in compact masses.
Known and exploited since ancient times, the ore is refined by water evaporation, crystallization with water, centrifugation and finally drying.
Crystallization is done with water and consists of extracting the sodium borate crystals from the insoluble gangue of evaporite by preserving only pure crystals.
According to the crystallization method used and the degree of purity obtained, the product is called in chemistry "decahydrate sodium tetraborate" and, more commonly, "Borax" by the users we are, since the Middle Ages.
Despite refining treatments, borax remains a 100% natural product.
Used as a stripper by goldsmiths in Asia and Persia, the borax powder has many properties put to use in the glass industry, where it enters into the composition of glasses such as Pyrex®, ceramics for, among other things, the varnishing of earthenware or porcelain where it increases the fluidity of enamels.
But its most remarkable property, the "foundant" finds a particular echo in the field of metallurgy by lowering the melting temperature of metals, thus reducing the temperature necessary for welding metals to the forge.
In addition to its melting property, borax powder is a powerful stripper to remove impurities and slag from steel (calamine) and avoids oxidation at the core of the solder.
It will have been understood: Never soldering at the forge without borax powder.
This rule, applicable to all types of welding, is particularly recommended in the creation of damas or sandwiches.
Sprinkle previously heated parts with powdered borax in order to assemble them causes the instantaneous formation of a protective film that spreads by absorbing impurities and slag. This film will also avoid the formation of oxides, thus protecting the core of the weld from oxidation.
Suffice it to say that the role of the borax is essential in the creation of kits of damas steels, sandwich steels and all other welds made at the forge.
The remarkable properties of the borax could not go unnoticed in many areas of application.
Thus, it will be found in the spraying water of nuclear reactors, electronic components or cements and concretes, food (conservative agent E285 in caviar) and many other fields, such as medicine and up to home.
Used in our domestic applications as detergent, cleaner, disinfectant and even to hunt ants a little too invasive, the borax powder never ceases to surprise us.
At Eurotechni, we offer the borax powder in 1 kg pots for economical and controlled use.
The industrial borax does not perish and retains all its properties if it is stored under the recommended conditions, particularly in order to protect it from moisture.
