The RWL34TM is named after the world-famous cutlery Robert W Loveless (January 1929–September 2010). Bob Loveless or RW Loveless was an American cutlery that popularized, among other things, hollow-moulded drop point blades as well as hollowed full silk knives. He is recognized by his peers and collectors as one of the most innovative in the world of custom knife manufacturers. Bob discovered and used ATS34, a Japanese steel for ball bearings manufactured by Kobe Steel, which was found to be the most suitable for demanding knife blades.
Pelle Billgren, the founder of Damasteel, was at that time looking for the best cutlery stainless steel when he learned what Bob had discovered.
Pelle was able to transform ATS34, which was already of good quality, into a superior alloy from powder metallurgy. Damasteel were the first in the world to produce a metallurgy version of the ATS34 powder named RWL34TM with reference to Bob Loveless. Today, the RWL34TM is manufactured in one of the most modern powder metallurgy plants ensuring an incomparable purity of the material.
Martensitic inox Damasteel RWL34TM is a powder metallurgy (RSP) variant of stainless steel 420 (with >13% Chrome).

The RWL34TM is a particularly efficient, very resistant, tenacious and with a very good edge, easy to maintain. The RWL34TM is highly appreciated by the cutlery thanks to its ease of machining and its very good ability to polished mirror. The RWL34TM is a metal in line with Bob's philosophy, which made no compromise on quality and ease of use
The addition of Molybdenum and Vanadium gives the Damasteel RWL34TM superior results in terms of corrosion resistance, hardness and strength. This grade can therefore be used for a large number of applications where the following properties are important:
