INFORMATION & ADVICE

Colors and contrasts on the sleeves of your knives: Corby brass screwing rivets.

In cutlery, the assembly of knife sleeves is an essential step for reasons of grip, robustness, but also aesthetics. An all-in-contrast or shade aesthetic can be obtained with Corby brass screwing rivets. Unless you're looking for harmony with a stabilized Afzelia platelet sleeve or tinted poplar magnifying glass: a question of taste.

A screw side, a nut side and a high diameter head.

Consisting of two Ø7 mm heads to be screwed on an Ø5mm axis, the male part screws on the female part after preparing the pads of the handle.

From a rather simple implementation, Corby brass rivets require precision and meticulousness when preparing the assembly. Designed for a handle thickness of +-25.4mm, a margin of manoeuvre is possible by reducing the height of screw heads in reasonable proportions.

Principle of use.

The Corby rivet assembly to be screwed is done by preparing the parts to be assembled as meticulously as possible.

The final thickness of the handle is an essential element.

Two assembly options may be considered:

(1) With apparent screw prints to, for example, facilitate future dismantling.

2) With fingerprint grinding for a rivet appearance.

Whatever option is chosen, aesthetic criteria play an undeniable role in this choice.

The first operation will be to drill the pads of the handle to the diameter of the axis of the Corby rivets to be screwed, after giving them the outline of their shape, preferably.

After determining the final thickness of the handle, the pads will have to be drilled again so as to make a housing for the Corby rivet heads to screw with a shoulder where they will come to rest. For this type of procedure, a laminate drill or strawberry facilitates the operation.

Rivet heads must be able to rotate effortlessly while being perfectly adjusted to the sleeve pads.

Tip: the diameter of the screw heads can be slightly reduced by raising the screws on a drill and turning them on a very fine abrasive, under watering if necessary.

A great deal of attention must be paid to the depth of the rivet housings, as it is necessary to leave enough thickness of material to be able to tighten moderately but firmly the handle while having led the Corby brass rivets to screw in contact with each other for a perfect lock and hold. A depth drilling guide is strongly recommended.

All that remains is to cut the screw heads on each side, sand and polish the assembly for a robust and permanent mounting.

This practical assembly system allows mounting all types of knife handles up to 25.4 mm thick.

Aesthetic and robustness.

After sanding and polishing, the Corby brass screwing rivets show the appearance of the classic rivets with increased strength that will avoid any risk of rupture due to a drop of the knife, for example.

Corby brass rivets are particularly appreciated for the assembly of art knives. Insensitive to rust but with a characteristic patina due to oxidation over the years, Corby brass rivets matt or shiny give your sleeves the elegance of the old or the most modern shine.
