INFORMATION & ADVICE

XC100 - 1095 carbon steel is used in the manufacture of slabs or knives.

Carbon steel "made in Europe" :

The XC100 or 1095 is a simple but essential carbon steel for cutlery. It is manufactured in Europe by Böhler-Uddeholm (UHB20C) a steelworks specialized in precision strip. Their technical know-how is recognized, it guarantees this metal a very good quality and excellent homogeneity.

Manufacture of knife blades:

The steel XC100 (1095) is used for making blades requiring high hardness and a razor edge. It is particularly appreciated for the design of choux cutters. Being weakly allied, the XC100 lacks some ductility, so selective quenching is advised to compensate for this. This shade allows to obtain very nice lines of dip (Hamon).

Perfect for making damas:

In combination with 15N20 or pure nickel, it allows you to design beautifully contrasted damas while maintaining a good cutting quality.

Delivery state and heat treatment of steel XC100:

This cold-rolled steel has a very good surface condition. As the majority of our nuances this reference is delivered to the annealed state in order to allow it to work without too much difficulty. It will then have to undergo the different heat treatment steps to give it the desired mechanical characteristics. Due to the absence of chromium in the available lot, soaking with water or accelerated oil is recommended to obtain maximum hardness.
