INFORMATION & ADVICE

A Mora No.1 carbon blade ready to mount for your Puukko knife.

All the advantages of carbon steel in this blade ready to mount: Excellent hardness after heat treatment, which ensures a good hold of the edge as well as wear resistance and easy reshaping.

This blade ready to mount will allow you to create your own Puukko style knife yourself.

Famous traditional Scandinavian knives, the Puukkos are renowned for their simplicity, robustness, hardness of their steel and exceptional sharpness.

No machining is necessary as the heat treatment, grinding, sharpening and polishing have been carried out by Morakniv, a world-famous Swedish designer and manufacturer and official supplier of the Royal Court of Sweden.

All blades are marked with the Morakniv logo, the mention "Made in Sweden" and the type of steel (Carbon or Stainless).

Morakniv and Puukko knives.

Morakniv, the creator and manufacturer of these blades, has been based in Mora, Sweden since 1891.

The company's specialty was then the manufacture of.... wooden snow sleds, traditionally towed by reindeer.

One will easily guess in which part of the world resides the Santa Claus....

In Sweden as elsewhere, artisans used to manufacture some tools themselves that they lacked for internal use.

Often made of recovered materials, these tools must first and foremost be functional, simple and robust.

Qualities that apply perfectly to the Puukko knife.

The Morakniv workshop did not derogate from the rule, so that the knives made were increasingly being demanded during the roaming of merchants and peddlers in Sweden and throughout Scandinavia, to the great north and the Arctic.

Thus the production of knives exceeded that of sleds which, gradually, was eventually abandoned.

The term puukko originally means knife with wooden handle.

Puukko is the traditional Scandinavian knife par excellence whose existence dates back more than 2500 years, according to recent discoveries.

Certainly, given the hostile environment and the harsh living conditions, Scandinavians had to rely on robust, reliable and practical tools and weapons.

Simple and efficient, the puukko knife originally has a solid and round handle made of an elegant birch or reindeer wood, with a short to simple sharp blade.

However, everyone is free to make the handle in the material of their choice or even to combine, mix and cleverly mix materials (wood, metal, leather, etc.).

The shape of the handle, on the other hand, will reflect the imagination of the cutlery.

Free your creativity!

Make the handle of your puukko.

For the realization of your puukko handle, you carry within yourself the main tools: your imagination and your creativity.

For technical realization, a common tooling will do the job perfectly and video tutorials of very good quality are available on the Internet (e.g.: Make a knife handle with a Mora blade).
